Snuggies

On youtube there are several (or perhaps it is just 1?) videos that say
what a stupid idea snuggies (the blanket with arms - http://
www.mysnuggiestore.com/, not the diapers) are.

I got one for Christmas a few years ago, and I disagree, I think it is a
pretty neat idea. I live in Tucson, so I don't need it a whole lot, but
it is still pretty neat.

However, the problem is that it is made of what looks to be a fairly
cheap fleece, and I am kinda worried that if I put it in the washer, I
would get a washer full of blue lint.

I think this relates to quilting because one could make a quilt that is
about 3x5ft (1x1.7m), though I would have to do some measuring to be
sure, and 2 pieces of fleece that are about 18inches by 2 feet (45x60cm),
though again I would have to do some measuring.

Or the truly ambitious I suppose could make 2 small quilts.

I was just wondering if anyone here has ever done this. The reason to
make one is that perhaps a relative or friend has mentioned that they
would like one of these.

Maybe the YouTube videos are right, and they are a stupid idea, but I
happen to disagree.

A few years ago I thought about making one of these and decided I could just
make an over-sized, pull over, pajama top, but make it extra long, and out
of a good fleece, or two heavy duty beach towels.
You could also make one out of a blanket, whichever you prefer. Then I
decided to just drag a blanket to the couch with me! Guess I just felt
lazy!

I suppose if making it for yourself, plans might change, but what if
someone you know got one, and really liked it.

Then they wash it, and ended up with a washer full of blue lint.

Would you make one for them, making probably a nicer design, and showing
how much nicer they are using quality materials?

Then I might try to borrow it for a couple of days and use the old one to
draw up a newspaper pattern to make then a very nice one!
In the past I have purchased after Christmas fleece throws at half price and
made up dog jackets for myself and friends. I think that 2 matching throws
would make a snuggie, Also, I watch for the sales ads for Joann's and get
fleece and flannel for gifts!

Since you are in Tucson, wash it in cold water on short delicate, and dry
it only about 5 minutes and hang you snuggie over a doorway to finish
drying, and it should be all right.
That is what I would do here in Florida---close to Orlando. It just needs
to be fluffed in the dryer. I've been to Tucson a couple times on vacation
and really enjoyed my stay!
I was visiting my sister whose husband was in the Air Force. We had supper
at Pinical Peak. (sp) I have the bag mounted on a board in my SC kitchen.
Have Fun with your project! There may be a Simplicity pattern in the craft
section and you could look at it and decide.
